The Town of Tecumseh is looking to celebrate 20 years since amalgamation.
It was on January 1st, 1999, the three former municipalities of the Township of Sandwich South, Town of Tecumseh and Village of St. Clair Beach, were effectively amalgamated into the ‘new’ The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh.
At the 2019 budget, $4,000 was set aside to mark the occasion.
Tuesday evening, Council approved a storyboard to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Amalgamation. A large storyboard will be placed outside the main entrance to the renovated Town Hall with two smaller storyboards placed in St. Clair Beach and Sandwich South.
A public campaign will be launched to encourage residents and businesses to submit information and photographs that could be used as part of the storyboard, which will be designed by local artist Scott Hughes.
The project will involve assistance from the Town’s Cultural and Arts Advisory, Heritage, Youth Advisory and Senior Advisory Committees, as well as the Sandwich South and Tecumseh Historical Societies to choose the images that will be displayed on the storyboard.
