A new development was announced Wednesday for empty lands just west of the WFCU Centre, once home to an automotive plant.

Developer Shmuel Farhi says the area will be turned into a complex of homes and commercial space costing $250 million.

Plans include seven residential buildings made up of four buildings with 58 units each, three buildings with 70 units each and 101 single-family homes.

A storm water retention pond is also planned with four of those buildings developed around the pond along with 11 single family lots.

Hotel and commercial areas will be constructed according to future demand.

The project will see five new roads including the extension of Darfield Road into the site.

Work is set to begin in about two weeks with the removal of concrete from the site. Construction of the first residential building is tentatively scheduled to begin mid-November 2019. Other complexes will follow according to demand.

Construction of model homes for the single-family lots expected to start summer 2020 and residential builders anticipate all single-family homes will be completed within three to four years.
