The OPP and the United States Coast Guard teamed up to rescue the owner of a sailboat after he fell overboard.
Police say around 6:45pm on July 18th, 2019 three occupants on a sailboat in Lake St. Clair called 911 to advise the vessel owner/operator had fallen overboard without a personal flotation device. None of the three passengers aboard were able to bring the vessel under control.
OPP Lakeshore officers located the sailboat and gained control, while the United States Coast Guard located the vessel operator, who had been treading water for approximately 30 minutes. The operator was uninjured.
The OPP would like to remind all boaters to always wear a personal flotation device and take all necessary safety precautions.
