The Downtown Windsor Farmers Market returns for another season this Saturday, May 25th.
The Market has more than 30 local vendors selling produce, hot food, and artisanal products, making it the region’s biggest Market.
This year, the Market’s presenting sponsor is the Downtown Windsor BIA. Also supporting the Market with new investment in 2019 is the St. Clair Zekelman School of Business, who is contributing an enlarged seating area along Maiden Lane. The partnership with St. Clair also includes an opportunity for vendors to connect with the Genesis Centre and Enactus program for business development resources and assistance.
“The Downtown Windsor BIA is thrilled to be the presenting sponsor of the Downtown Farmers Market again this year,” said Brian Yeomans, DWBIA Chair. “The Market supports and enhances the development of the local food and artisan industry, promotes sustainable food choices and healthy eating, and contributes positively to a vibrant and convivial atmosphere in the city centre.”
In addition to the return of the Kids Corner, funded through the City of Windsor’s Arts, Culture, and Heritage Fund grant, they will be adding a 15-week series of cooking demonstrations, titled the ‘Chef’s Table.’ The series will feature 15 local chefs from some of Windsor’s favourite restaurants, presenting Market patrons with free cooking demos using local, seasonal produce.
“Every year, the DWFM brings thousands of residents to the downtown and this year is no exception,” says Sarah Cipkar, Co-chair of the Downtown Windsor Farmers Market Committee and Community Coordinator at the DWCC. “We have some awesome additions this year that the Market Subcommittee is excited to share with the community. An enlarged ‘piazza-style’ seating area being sponsored by St. Clair Zekelman School of Business, new cooking demonstrations from local chefs, and more vendors committed than ever before – we know it’s going to be an amazing summer on Maiden Lane!”
The Market will run every Saturday, from 8am to 1pm on Pelissier Street and Maiden Lane, for 23 weeks, concluding on October 26th.
