The Essex Region Conservation and the Detroit River Canadian Cleanup invited the community out to a planting site to plant 2, 200 native trees and shrubs Sunday morning.

The site is by the Ganatchio Trail South of Wyandotte between Florence and Martinique Avenue.

The event provides the plants, shovels, tips on how to plant the trees, light refreshments and an opportunity to help the environment and the community.

Local students were also rewarded for the Earth Day contest as a kick-off to the event, which was attended by hundreds of people wanting to do their part for the environment.
