The multi-use trail along South National Street in East Windsor will have lights installed this year.
The idea to light the trail has come up several times over the past few years, but City of Windsor budget funding has never been available.
As part of the city’s 2017 enhanced budget, money had been set aside for a street paving project on Iris Street in the same area. The work on Iris Street is already included in the work associated with a proposed sewer reconstruction project on Buckingham Street in 2018.
The city has decided to move the funds originally earmarked for Iris Street to the South National streetlights project.
These funds will be used along with city-wide street light funding to augment the existing street lighting along South National Street in order to provide adequate lighting levels along the multi-use trail.
The total cost is expected to be in the range of $125,000 to $135,000.
