Amherstburg Community Services has kicked off their annual Stuff-a-Stocking for Seniors program, with the goal of providing holiday gifts to isolated seniors living in Amherstburg, LaSalle, Harrow and McGregor.
Last year, the program was able to provide holiday gifts to 250 seniors.
Kathy DiBartolomeo, ACS executive director, says the organization hopes to be able raise that number to 300 seniors this year.
“Every year, we’re told how much this means to the seniors who receive these gifts,” said DiBartolomeo. “It’s remarkable seeing the community come together to show these people that they care, and the truth is, the generosity we see from local residents is what allows us to continue to grow this program.”
The Stuff-a-Stocking for Seniors program collects donations of gifts, hygienic essentials, winter clothing such as socks and gloves, treats, home-made cards and monetary donations. Volunteers then sort these gifts and place them into Christmas stockings, which are then distributed to registered seniors.
Donations will be accepted until December 9th and can be dropped off to ACS at 179 Victoria Street South in Amherstburg.
Distribution will begin on December 12th. People are encouraged to contact ACS by calling 519-736-5471 if they know a senior who they think would appreciate receiving a stocking.
