Enrolment Increases At Public School Board, Additional Teachers Hired

The Greater Essex County District School Board reports a significant increase in elementary enrolment for the 2016-17 school year.
Enrolment to date for Grades K to 8 is 23,958 which is an increase of 395 students from September 2015 and 481 more than was projected by the Board in April.
They report that 381 of the new students are new to school and registered in JK/SK programs.
The board says this has made it possible to recall all teachers who were laid off at the end of the last school year as well as the hiring of 52 teachers from the long-term occasional list.
