An early morning fire in the 1000 block of Ford Boulevard is under investigation.
The fire broke out around 4am and spread to a garage and the home next door.
Officials say that when Windsor Police officers arrived first at the scene, the house was on fire, and there was a brief interaction with a man who was inside the house.
Fire crews arrived and worked for over an hour to put the fire out.
One person was rescued from the second floor and taken to hospital. The 47-year-old man was pronounced dead a short time later at hospital.
Three police officers were also sent to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, and have since been released.
An investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshal office arrived on the scene early Monday afternoon and the scene investigation is underway, removing vehicles from driveway and yard. Heavy equipment has also been brought in to dismantle the garage.
The Special Investigations Unit has also been called in.
