Windsor Police are alerting the public about a fraud scam that is circulating in the community.
Police say they have received several complainants where people are contacted by telephone and the caller claims to be from the CRA and advises the person that they owe the government money and the debt is past due.
They have also received a complaint from a citizen who stated that the caller posed as a member of the Windsor Police Service. The suspect “spoofed” their number to display as a Windsor Police number and the caller stated that if the debt is not settled immediately, the victim could be in jeopardy with the CRA and Windsor Police would be coming to arrest them.
Police say that they would never contact you by phone and threaten to arrest you for outstanding CRA debt.
