The 20th annual Hockey for Hospice tournament is well underway with a record 121 teams playing.
Originally conceived as a skate-a-thon by tournament founder, Tim Beaulieu, Hockey for Hospice has grown each year.
This year’s edition taking place from December 27th to 29th, will include a schedule of 256 games being played at four different arenas over three days. Divisions include Tyke, Novice, Atom, PeeWee, Bantam and Atom Girls.
“I just love how many kids are participating in this year’s tournament,” said Carol Derbyshire, executive director of The Hospice. “Not only do they have fun, raise pledges and learn about The Hospice, they’re teaching their family, friends and neighbours about the programs and services in our community. Nowadays that’s so important.”
Teams from across Windsor and Essex County, as well as teams from Tilbury and Chatham-Kent, will see on-ice action. All players participating in the tournament raise pledges and awareness for The Hospice.
The Hockey for Hospice tournament will be played at the United Communities Credit Union Complex in Amherstburg, Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore, Vollmer Recreational Complex in LaSalle and Tecumseh Arena.
