Furniture retailer IKEA will be opening a storefront on Walker Road.

The location, slated to open in 2016, will allow customers who have shopped online or at an IKEA store to pick up their products closer to where they live.

“The new Pick-Up and Order Points are designed to make shopping with IKEA more accessible to Canadians” said Stefan Sjöstrand, President, IKEA Canada. “We hope that by reducing shipping times and expanding to areas which don’t currently have a full-service store, we can make the shopping experience even more seamless for our customers.”

IKEA currently has 12 stores across Canada as well as Pick-Up and Order Points under construction in Quebec City, London, St. Catherines and Whitby.

The new store will replace the old Future Shop at 4115 Walker Road.

Officials say the Windsor Pick-Up and Order Point location will reduce delivery times and costs for customers at the same time as delivering design ideas and services.

The new location will feature a home furnishing inspiration area as well as stations to support customers with their planning process.

IKEA says customers will be able to buy services to support their purchases and sit at a computer station to browse and make online purchases from www.IKEA.ca. Customers can also bring their own WIFI enabled devices to both browse and buy on the company’s website.

Customers will be able to pay by debit, credit, and gift card, and all purchases at the Windsor location will include a flat $20 delivery fee.

“Currently customers are either driving to the nearest store for a cash and carry purchase, or shopping online and paying a minimum delivery fee of $99,” according to IKEA. “The delivery fee increases depending on the size of the purchase.”

IKEA will be hiring around 30 to 35 workers for the Windsor location.

The nearest full-sized IKEA locations are in Canton, Michigan and the Greater Toronto Area.
