Fake ice will one again be tried at the downtown Windsor outdoor skating rink.
Thursday evening, City Council voted to re-install the fake ice at Charles Clark Square, saying it would be a cost savings over real ice.
According to a Facebook post by City Councilor Rino Bortolin, he along with John Elliott, Chris Holt, Irek Kusmierczyk, and Ed Sleiman all supported real ice. While the other five City Councillors and Mayor Drew Dilkens voted for fake ice making it 6-5.
The city first tried the fake ice in late 2013, but after many complaints it was removed early in 2014 and real ice was installed. The fake ice has since sat in storage ever since.
The Parks Department had originally gone before council asking for $100,000 to be set aside to do under ground rapiers and board repairs, all needed for real ice.
