The City of Windsor is preparing to sell off two closed fire halls.
The former Station 2 located at 2296 Richmond Street and former Station 6 located at 5650 Tecumseh Road East were both closed last year when a new station was built on the corner of Milloy Street and Chandler Road.
In a report to City Council, administration says that it was an informal decision of City Council that the fire halls would be retained for a period of time to effect the implementation of the new fire station opening. No specific time frame was referenced as to how long the city would hang onto the empty properties.
The city now says that both properties no longer have a municipal use and are surplus to their needs.
Once council approves the recommendation to sell the properties, city administration will obtain an independent appraisal for each property. Both will then be listed for sale on MLS at a list price commensurate with an independent appraisal at the appropriate time.
Due to fuel tanks that were at each site, the city will complete an environmental assessment and address any issues found prior to offering the properties for sale as this may have a negative impact on the market value of the property. Any required remediation work will be undertaken prior to the property being listed for sale.
