The former Wickes Windsor Bumper Manufacturing Plant on Tecumseh Road East will soon see a new development.
The City of Windsor obtained the property on Tecumseh Road East through tax arrears in 2009. The plant closed in 1990, and has environment risks, with deposits of chromium, copper and nickel left behind on the site.
In June of 2014, an intentionally set fire destroyed the front part of the building.
The city has entered into an agreement to sell the land, and the owners plan to develop the site into a U-Haul complex.
Plans submitted to City Council include using the existing building for a self storage facility, truck leasing and sales, and sales of general merchandise for moving.
You can see the entire site plan on the City of Windsor website here.
