After a lengthy debate, Windsor City Council voted Monday evening to spend more money on the new city hall.
With an original budget of $35 million, it had jumped to $39 million, the new price tag is now set at $43 million.
Administration said that the extra costs were needed to add space to the top three floors of the proposed new building to accommodate any possible future growth of administration and services provided at City Hall.
The final vote was 6 to 5 with Councilors Francis, Gignac, Kuzmierczyk, Holt and Bortolin voted against expansion.
Final design should come to council in the fall with the project going to tender soon after. Construction is expected to begin in March 2016 and take two years to complete.
