What do you get when you mix over 600 people with more than 29,000 water balloons? The most epic water balloon battle Windsor has ever seen.
Joe Jrage, owner of Spotted in Windsor, organized the WINWBF2015 in Lanspeary park to raise funds for Windsor-Essex Care for Kids (WE Care for Kids). Jrage said the event would not have been possible had it not been for the help of local businesses, media sponsorship, community donations and a charity BBQ with food donations from Real Canadian Superstore.
“I had the idea, and then I youtubed a couple of videos online,” said Jrage. “Other people have tried it and it’s been successful, so I thought Windsor needed something like this. It’s a great event to bring the community together, it’s free, raising funds for Windsor-Essex Care for Kids. It’s my opportunity to get into the city and I want to do more of these events eventually.”
Volunteers started filling water balloons at 6am Sunday morning to prepare for the battle. Participants began crowding the park at 1pm, also assisting in filling balloons as well as playing with water guns and toys.
By 2:30pm, Windsorites were invited into the taped off area where kiddy pools and tarps of water balloons awaited them. Complete and total chaos erupted along with laughter as hundreds of participants, both young and old, tossed water balloons at one another.
“Right now, I’m actually really happy with what we got. I was happy to just hit 400 people,” said Jrage. “It’s hot outside, the sun’s out, what better way to enjoy the weather than to have a nice water balloon fight.”
