A new chapter is set to be written on the former site of Grace Hospital.
On Thursday, hospital officials will announce the plans to build an urgent care center as part of the overall mega hospital plan.
The site has a long history of medical care. Grace Hospital was established in 1918 by The Salvation Army. Originally designed to be a maternity hospital it was soon expanded into Windsor’s second general hospital after Hotel Dieu. Wings were added to the hospital in 1922 and 1942 to accommodate increased demand.
The hospital closed its doors on February 1st, 2004.
Plans were then announced for it to be transformed into a 250-bed long-term care facility, instead the site was transformed into a giant eye-sore for the neighbors who live around it.
It came down in the summer of 2013 and has been a grass field since.
