A ground-breaking ceremony was held Tuesday to mark the beginning of construction on a new 25-metre indoor community pool located as an addition to the WFCU Centre.
The $6.4-million pool will feature a splash pad, therapy pool and at least a six-lane competitive pool as well as a built-in wheelchair ramp to access both pools.
The pool will initially serve as a warm-up facility for the 2016 FINA World Championships, which will be staged in a larger temporary pool inside the WFCU’s main bowl next December, and it will remain afterward as a legacy piece for the community
DeAngelis Construction will begin construction this week and it should be complete by August 2016.
