The retail units on the ground floor of the Pelissier Street Parking Garage will remain for now.
City administration had asked City Council to approve converting the eight retail spaces to 42 parking spaces, but council had a different idea.
An expressions of interest will be issued looking for a third-party to come forward to take over the spaces. They would be responsible to rent and maintain the eight units.
A report will now come before council in a couple of months that will set up the criteria that the city will expect potential operators to meet.
Currently three of the eight units are rented and the unites need major upgrades including waterproofing, repair wok to the walls, ceilings and floors, new heating, ventilation and air conditioning units would need to be installed, as well as upgrades to electric and plumbing work, doors and windows at a cost of $1,852,000.
