The U.S. Coast Guard rescued five people from a disabled boat near the Ambassador Bridge Tuesday evening.
The Coast Guard says that around 8:40pm, someone on board the 16 foot pleasure craft reported the vessel was disabled because it was low on fuel near the main channel of the Detroit River.
Due to a report of water coming in over the stern and the number of people aboard, the Coast Guard coordinator determined it to be a distress situation.
A 25-foot rescue boat was diverted from patrol to assess the situation. The boat crew arrived on scene with the vessel, which was anchored just outside the channel in Canadian waters.
The boat crew towed the vessel safely to the Delray boat ramp in Detroit.
The names of the boaters are not being released.
