The days are numbered for the old Essex Arena.
Town council has approved the demolition of both the Essex Memorial Arena and the Essex Silos.
A tender was put out and the lowest bid came in from Lions Group Inc. at a cost of $251,856.
The 2015 Community Services Capital budget has approved funding in the amount of $175,000 for the demolition of the Essex Memorial Arena and $60,000 for the demolition of the Essex Silos for a total of $235,000.
The Town of Essex has applied for a Small Communities Grant for the redevelopment of the Heritage Gardens Area which would include two-third funding from other levels of government for the project which includes the demolition of the Essex Silos.
Should they not get the grant, then 16,856 will be transferred from the capital savings for the purchase of the new Colchester Harbour Docks.
Demolition should begin this summer.
