A group of 10 hospital workers are Windsor’s winners of a $5.8-million dollar Lotto 6/49 prize.

As we told you about last week, one of six winning tickets for a Canada-wide $35-million prize was sold in Windsor for the April 1st draw.

And it definitely wasn’t an April Fools joke.

“We found out about our win the day after April-Fools day and I thought one of my friends was playing a joke on me,” said Brandon Marion, who is sharing the prize with nine others. “There were lots of smiles but this was no joke.”

Winner Deborah Mailloux told the OLG she usually checks the numbers, selected by the members, a week after the draw, when she purchases tickets for the next LOTTO 6/49 draw.

“I was told I should check the numbers sooner because the winner was from Windsor,” she said. “When I got home my husband was checking his ticket so I asked him to check our group ticket as well. Suddenly he said, ‘Oh my God, you got all six numbers. You won!”

The OLG says the hospital workers have been playing as a group for decades. Three of them had been playing for over 25 years.

While the Windsor hospital workers each plan to make their own dreams come true with their windfall, they also plan to honour one of their former colleague’s and group member who passed away from cancer by contributing to a memorial garden at the hospital.

Each group member’s portion of the win is $582,798.41 and the winning ticket was purchased at M & S Convenience on Felix Avenue in Windsor.

The winners are:
Deborah Mailloux of Windsor
Brandon Marion of Windsor
Christopher Ard of Windsor
Christopher McCurdy of Amherstburg
Lawrence Lauzon of Windsor
Mark Ranson of Windsor
Paul Baggio of Windsor
Sharad Sharma of Windsor
Stephanie Seguin of Windsor
Stephen Walach of Amherstburg
