Saturday April 18th is the eighth annual Record Store Day, a day where the music industry celebrates independent record stores around the globe.
Organizers say it’s a day for the people who make up the world of record stores — staff, customers, and artists — to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities.
Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances.
Locally owned record store Dr. Disc, at 471 Ouellette, will be participating.
“Record store day has continued to gain popularity so it really does help us,” Dr. Disc’s co-owner Mara O’Donnell told windsoriteDOTca about last year’s event. “The exclusive releases are a big draw for customers. The releases are limited so it is always on a first come first serve basis.”
