Amherstburg Police have issued an alert about bogus hydro or power companies seeking payment.

Police say that they are investigating an increase of fraudulent phone calls from these bogus hydro or power companies demanding payment or power will be cut off.

They say that the phone number 1-877-205-9771 has been identified as being involved in many scams. The caller identifies themselves as an employee of a hydro service or power company and is demanding payment immediately or your power would be shut off, they will then attempt to gain your personal financial information.

Police ask that if you have become a victim of such a crime to contact them at 519-736-3622 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center at 1-888-495-8501.
