The City of Windsor is looking at its options when it comes to the long term future of Lakeview Park Marina that they have owned since 1980.
City administration has prepared a report with three options for the future operations of the marina. Those are to maintain the status quo, issue a request for proposals for an operator or to sell it.
According to the city report, the marina has seen steady increase of seasonal boaters in the past four years going from 45% in 2010 to 73% in 2013. Revenue has increased making the city a small profit of $75,316 in 2013.
The report notes that the small income is not sufficient to pay for the ongoing capital repairs and upgrades needed.
City administration is recommending that the city go with the option to look for an operator to run it on behalf of the city. They would be responsible for staffing, maintenance and small repairs.
Should they maintain the status quo, the city will continue to operate it with one full time operator and seasonal staff.
In addition, a separate report will ask council to consider $300,000 in repairs and upgrades to the marina. Those upgrades to the docks, replacement of fuel tanks, construction of a new office and customer service building and the installation of WiFi service.
Administration says that regardless of the option chosen, the repairs should be carried out to continue to sustain the city asset. Should the city decided to sell the arena, it is recommended to council that it should still go ahead with improvements, as they will increase the ability to sell it.
