Environment Canada says that periods of rain, patchy fog, a few thunderstorms and very mild temperatures are forecast for Christmas Eve. Very strong and gusty winds are then expected to develop through the evening and overnight hours and persist through Christmas Day, bringing in somewhat drier air and temperatures closer to seasonal values.

An intensifying weather system from the American south will spread rain across much of Southern Ontario beginning Tuesday night, and areas of fog are also expected to develop.

Periods of rain and patchy fog are forecast to persist through much of the day on Christmas Eve, and a few thunderstorms may also develop in the afternoon.

Temperatures will be very mild, ranging from the high single digits to possibly the low teens, and a few new daily high temperature records may be set.

During the evening and overnight hours of Christmas Eve, the rain, fog and thunderstorms will come to an end, but very strong and gusty winds will develop in many locales. Wind warning criteria of 70 km/h with gusts to 90 km/h may be reached in some exposed areas near the Great Lakes.

On Christmas Day, the strong winds will persist, but are expected to gradually abate through the latter part of the day as the weather system moves off to the northeast. Temperatures will be closer to seasonal, with daytime highs forecast to be between about plus one and plus four Celsius.
