The driver of a transport truck narrowly escaped when his cab caught fire on Highway 3.
LaSalle firefighters, police and OPP were called before 6pm to the eastbound lanes of Highway 3, just west of Geraedts where a transport truck hauling a girder had caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames.
LaSalle Fire and Rescue says the driver noticed the fire breaking out about 30 seconds before it fully engulfed the cab. He was able to make it out safely.
The blaze caused a shutdown of the highway and traffic on Huron Church was backed up past EC Row as of 6:45pm.
LaSalle Fire says the blaze seemed to have originated in the truck’s bunk area. The cause is still under investigation.
The driver didn’t sustain any injuries.
