Humane Society Organizing Parvovirus And Panleukopenia Clinics

The Windsor/Essex Humane Society says that in the past few years throughout the region, both themselves and local veterinary clinics have seen a dramatic increase in the incidences of parvovirus in dogs and panleukopenia in cats.

They say that both of these viruses are extremely contagious, and typically fatal if left untreated, and it is likely that this increase can be attributed to too many unvaccinated dogs and cats because both diseases are completely preventable with routine vaccinations. The Humane Society urges all pet owners to ensure that their dogs and cats have current vaccinations.

To help increase the number of animals who are vaccinated in our community, a number of veterinary clinics have stepped forward to participate in a special vaccine drive.

The following clinics are offering a special for two weeks only from February 15-28, where a brief exam and basic vaccines (rabies and DA2PP vaccines for dogs; rabies and FVRCP vaccines for cats) will be available for $50 (plus tax). Pet owners must call the clinics directly to book an appointment, and the clinic does reserve the right to limit appointments under this promotion.
