City Council is looking to demolish an abandoned house at 1194 Aubin under the city’s Blight Mitigation Strategy.
The City’s building department first became aware of the home in December of 2011 after receiving complaints of roof singles blowing off of the building. An order was issued to the owner to repair the roof.
The owner did take out a building permit to do the work, however on a follow up inspection, the city found issues with the roof framing and found water damage had rotted parts of the structure and created huge amounts of mould growth.
The owner then applied for a demolition permit, but the work was never carried out.
The city issued a demolition order in June and no appeals were received. The city will undertake the demolition of the property for a cost estimated just under $10,000 and this will be added to the owners property taxes.
