After an extensive consultation process involving students, parents, staff members and the community, the Conseil scolaire de district des écoles catholiques du Sud-Ouest is changing its name to the Conseil scolaire catholique Providence, whihc they say will promote a French-language Catholic identity true to its vision and educational values.
“We want a name that unites us and that immediately and naturally evokes who we are and what we are accomplishing, in other words, a Catholic school board dedicated to the success and utmost personal fulfillment of each student in an inclusive environment founded on Christian values,” proudly commented Didier Marotte, Chairperson of the Board.
School officials say that the new name is both strong and evocative. In the Catholic faith, it refers to “the protective care of God,” thus calling to mind the board’s goal of strengthening Catholic engagement. The expression “you are the providence” means “to be the cause of happiness,” which is a perfect image for the direction that the Board hopes to steer in ensuring the success of each student. It also reflects the specific geographic features and characteristics of the South-Western Ontario community, and alludes to the Board’s leadership and role as a trailblazer in French-language Catholic education in Ontario.
“We are proud and pleased to be able to move forward with the Board’s new name and logo, which fit perfectly with our future growth and vision,” said the Board’s Director of Education, Joseph Picard.
He added, “The name Conseil scolaire catholique Providence also carries a rallying force that is identifiable and adaptable by our schools to their realities.”
