The Greater Essex County District School Board has begun the process of installing controlled access on the main doors of all of their elementary schools.
In December 2012 then Premier Dalton McGuinty announced $10 million to provide these safety measures for all elementary schools in the province.
The system has 2-way audio/video communication from the main door to the office with an electric door release.
Beginning in September all visitors to any public elementary school will have to be identified and request entrance during school hours.
