This summer, the Border City Brawlers roller derby league will welcome the Roller Derby Association of Canada’s (RDAC) Eastern Regional’s to the WFCU Centre.
To be held on June 15th and 16th, the Border City Brawlers all-star travel team will skate against seven other teams from across the province.
Modern roller derby isn’t like the derby of the 70s, it’s a fast-growing sport played by athletic women and the number of leagues grew from 50 in 2005 to more than 1,100 in 2012, according to data from the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Leagues are popping up around the globe, including junior no-contact leagues and men’s leagues.
Border City Brawlers coach and league president, Josh Dollar says that opportunities like this help the league improve, “We are playing some really great teams this year and are committed to growing and being competitive at the highest level of roller derby. It’s great to play in front of a home crowd with an arena full of cheering fans and we can’t wait to do it at a great venue like the WFCU Centre.”
Tickets for RDAC’s Eastern Regional’s go on sale next Friday May 17th at 10am at www.wfcu-centre.com or charge by phone at 1-866-969-WFCU (9328). Tickets are also available for purchase in person at the Teksavvy.com Box Office located inside Gate 2 at the WFCU Centre.
Spectators can watch the flat track roller derby action on June 15th and 16th, from 9am through 9pm on Saturday and 9am through 6pm on Sunday.
