Weekend Benefit For I-75 Tragedy Victims Raises $40k

A three day fundraising event which benefitted the victims of January’s I-75 tragedy has raised tens of thousands of dollars.

Organizers of the WE Take Care Of Our Own Weekend report the weekend raised close to $40,000 for the families affected by the I75 accident on January 30th 2013.

“We couldn’t be more happier with the attendance, and the compassion of the people of this area.” Says Norm Ackland Jr who launched the successful “A Night Of Stars For Angels” on Friday night and received a standing ovation for his performance with his son Jax as multiple Elvis tribute artists.

“The volunteer support was incredible – we were fully staffed and set with an army of dedicated volunteers selling tickets and helping through the weekend – many on all 3 days. It was simply an amazing weekend.” Says Heather McAuley one of organizers of the weekend.

“We are blessed to have so many people donate prizes, time and talent to a weekend none of us will ever forget ” says David Amyotte, Saturday night’s organizer of ‘WE Rock for a Cause”.

A number of groups participated in the weekend, including the Verdi Club of Amherstburg who held an event in early March and combined the total of the event with the WE Take Care Of Our Own Weekend.

Funds raised from the weekend will be distributed to the four families affected by the tragedy.
