The City of Windsor continues to remove burned out and abandoned homes from the city landscape with a focus of many of those in the downtown core area.
A home located at 270 Aylmer has been sitting vacant for some time, but the city says they were first called to it after a complaint on January 3rd 2012. The home was secure at that time, and added to the Blight Mitigation Strategy list for assessment. The assessment was conducted in December and the building was deemed to be beyond practical repair.
A demolition order was issued to the owners and they have expressed a willingness to comply. Any demolition must first be approved by City Council tonight, as the home falls in an area with a demolition control bylaw.
Should the home owner not demolish the building in a timely manor, the city says it will then go ahead and do it and charge the cost to the property taxes.
