Long Park on Chandler Road near Ford Test Track is set to soon become the site of a new combined St. Bernard / Our Lady Of Lourdes elementary school and a number of plots for new houses.
Plans to rezone the park are currently under way, and the new school, which will accommodate 400 students, is being proposed to face Chandler Road.
The park located adjacent to Most Precious Blood church is visually known for its large hill visible from Tecumseh Road East.
The City says that Long Park has a history of being underused due to the immediate proximity of Ford Test Track.
At a meeting in November, the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board said construction of the new school is proposed for later in 2013, with an opening date set for either January or September 2014.
