Fire broke out on the roof of the Hot & Spicy House Chinese restaurant on Wyandotte Street West, near the University of Windsor between Rankin and Partington, just before noon today.
Arriving firefighters found smoke pouring from the roof of the restaurant and worked to extinguish flames that were emanating from a rooftop vent.
The restaurant was open at the time the fire started.
Windsor Police Staff Sergeant Steve Bodri says “the Hot and Spicy Restaurant at 2045 Wyandotte Street got a little too hot as workers on the roof were applying hot tar. The open flame used to heat the tar apparently caused the roof to ignite.”
There are no injuries to report. Damage is estimated at $160,000 to the roof and with water and smoke damage inside.
