A city park that had its playground structure damaged last April is set to get a new one pending council approval.
Last April, winds gusting between 70 and 80 km/h, uprooted a large tree in Wigle Park on the corner of Erie and Mercer tossing it onto the playground and crushing the equipment, which was then removed.
During the 2012 budget the parks department had $100,000 set aside as a budget place holder and will now be asking council to transfer the money to the neighborhood parks impairments fund.
They money will be used to plant new trees and to replace the playground with new equipment that meets today’s standards.
Should council approve this Monday night, work should begin in the spring.
