Sue Garrett, the Chair of the Windsor Motorcycle Ride for Dad, supported by the Windsor Police Association, presented the Windsor & Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation with a donation of $104,000 for the It’s In Your Jeans capital campaign to fight prostate cancer yesterday.
The donation was made in part by the thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from Windsor and Essex County along with hundreds of volunteers who have joined together to raise money to help fight prostate cancer and make men’s health a priority in our community.
Bob Copland, WECCCF Board Member stated, “the Windsor & Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation and the Windsor Motorcycle Ride for Dad organizers are working together to ensure that our men will receive the best possible heath care, right here at home. The purchase of the da Vinci Surgical Robot at a cost of $3.5 million is a vital component to the Regional Comprehensive Men’s Health Program, along with the purchase of advanced laboratory equipment and a men’s health centre of excellence in prostate cancer care”.
Sue Garrett, said that the donation will mean, “more than 50% of local prostate cancer surgical patients are treated outside of our region where the da Vinci is available and wait times are shorter. Windsor Regional Hospital has the trained surgeons but doesn’t have the machine. This campaign is about saving lives, and the Windsor Motorcycle Ride For Dad is committed to bringing this gold-standard equipment to our region our men and their families deserve it.”
