Windsor has won top honours in a less-than-honourable contest.
Our city was ranked as the #3 Worst city for speed traps in North America in a study released today by the National Motorists Association.
The NMA analyzed the past five years of data from its website The National Speed Trap Exchange, which lists data on the locations of many thousands of speed traps in the United States and Canada.
The NMA says their methodology in the study involved comparing data submitted to the site by users to the populations of cities with populations over 50,000 citizens.
Nearby Livonia, Michigan ranked as #2 on the list and Flower Mound, Texas took the #1 spot.
“Speed traps typically combine arbitrarily low speed limits with heavy traffic enforcement,” said the Association in a release and that they stand for, “reasonable speed limits, an end to speed traps, fairer traffic courts and against using traffic tickets to generate revenue.”
Windsor slipped to the #3 spot following last August’s rankings where we snagged the #2 position in North America.
Hamilton and Mississauga placed number 4 and number 5 on this year’s list, respectively.
