Windsor firefighters responded to the 1100 block of Windermere around 12:30pm for reports of heavy smoke coming out of a house.
Upon arrival firefighters encountered a large area of fire in the basement, extending to the first floor and a great deal of smoke moving upwards throughout the house.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze by 1pm and worked to remove smoke from the house.
Police say the fire began when a 16 year old was babysitting his little sister while their parents were at work. The 16 year old lit three sticks of incense in the basement and the two went for a walk.
When they returned the 16 year old heard smoke alarms going off, went inside and opened the basement door. The 16 year old was blasted with heavy smoke and fire burned his arm and hand.
The two were treated for smoke inhalation. Investigators determined that the fire caused around $100,000 in damages.
