The City of Windsor is looking for ways to give new life to the former Sandwich Fire Hall #6 on Mill Street. Built in 1921, the firehall is comprised of a two floor building with a hose drying tower and an adjoining stable with a hay storage facility.
The fire hall itself actually caught fire in 1941 and the second floor was rebuilt. The buildings are protected as a registered heritage site and have had various uses over the years including a Parks and Rec Yard and home to a Detox Clinic.
City Hall is looking into two possible futures for the site: to see if it can be rehabilitated by a third party and reused, or to sell it to a private owner.
The future of the Sandwich Fire Hall will be discussed at City Council next Monday.
