As the crisp snow crunches under the feet of many and the windows start fog, the SB Contemporary Art Gallery is open for business. The opening of Are you in the room with internationally acclaimed artists Dean Carson, Matthew Hawtin, and Jim Mroczkowsk was launched at 7pm, with many visitors.
Snacks, including decadent red velvet cupcakes, and wine were served easing conversation and grumbling stomachs. Many Windsorites were present, including faculty members and students from the University of Windsor’s Fine Arts program.
With this show the SB Contemporary Art Gallery brings together different mediums and finds a parallel. With paintings and sculptures available for viewers to explore the opening was a success. Curator Sarah Beveridge describes the show “I was initially intrigued by the differences in each of these artists practices and studio processes, but at the same time I could not help but draw parallels between them. The relationships to space, to perception, and our understanding of meaning are in some cases physical and in others conceptual, psychological within the work. In all cases, the viewer as well as the artist pose questions as the work pushes and pulls against perceived boundaries.”
The SB Contemporary Art Gallery located at 1017 Church Street in Windsor exhibits 8-10 shows each year as well as offers educational courses, artists talks, and workshops.
