The Children’s Safety Village is celebrating a year of firsts and successes and is looking to the future as well.

Board Chair Shawn Boutette points out that several new initiatives have been launched including expanding services to include the Crime Prevention Program that led to the launch of Neighbourhood Watch in the Olde Walkerville community.

Boutette also took the opportunity to announce the recent acquisition of an entire fleet of jeeps that will provide a fun and engaging component to the educational program for school children, thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918).  The ride on vehicles used to demonstrate and reinforce pedestrian safety lessons.

This village will be launching several environmental initiatives that include the planting of trees in the Village and upcoming solar power projects, and are currently in the early stages of developing a strategic plan to help guide them through the next 3 – 5 years. “This is a very exciting time for the Safety Village,” said Boutette, “and our Board and staff are feeling reenergize about the future.”

The Safety Village is currently holding community focus groups to learn more about what it is doing well and where it can add more value through its current or future programs. Currently engaged in restructuring the board, they are also looking for community volunteers for a variety of working subcommittees.
