Family Endowment Established in Memory of Daniel Johnson Jr

This morning, Windsor Regional Hospital received a generous endowment from the Daniel Johnson Family to establish the Daniel Johnson Memorial Education Fund.

Daniel Johnson Jr. passed away from cancer last October 2010 at age 51.  His family was deeply affected by the outstanding care they received from Windsor Regional Hospital and they wanted to recognize and remember Daniel in a very significant way by establishing the Excellence in Oncology Nursing Award and the Daniel Johnson Memorial Education Fund.

The Excellence in Oncology Nursing Award will be given to the first two recipients, Donna Langlois, RN and Sarah Benninger, RN.  They are receiving this award and being recognized for outstanding care including pain management and compassionate care.  The family chose the two nurses as they actually cared for Daniel Johnson in the Oncology Program.  Future awards will be chosen by the hospital.

“By establishing this education fund here at Windsor Regional Hospital in my son’s name, it will allow the hospital to provide annual training to all Oncology nurses in the future,” stated Daniel Johnson Sr.

The late Daniel Johnson had several business ventures leading his entrepreneurial spirit to the communities of Dresden and Chatham-Kent where he worked for several years with his father and brother in the family business, JTO Trenching.  Mr. Johnson was an active member of the horse racing industry in Southwestern Ontario and a member of the Dresden Agriculture Society.

The endowment commitment is for $6,000 over a five year period annually, leaving a $30,000 gift to Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation in support of the Daniel Johnson Memorial Education Fund.
