Windsor firefighters battled a garage fire at around 2am last night in the University of Windsor area. Fire crews were called to the rear of 1920 University Avenue West (near Bridge St.) for a two-car garage burning out of control. The garage fire caused nearby powerlines to fall and arc on the ground and necessitated Enwin Utilities to shut off power. Damage to the garage is extensive.
Shortly after arriving at the University Ave. fire, crews were called nearby to the 3000 block of Sandwich street for a report of a dumpster engulfed in flames.
It is unknown at this time if the two fires are related.
