2010 Fireworks By Owen Wolter

One week from today is the unofficial kick off to the Summer in Windsor!  The 53rd annual Target Fireworks will light up the sky on our international border at 10:06 pm.

This is the third consecutive year that Zehrs Great Food stores have stepped up to the plate to make sure the region can enjoy the fireworks at no cost. Three local Zehrs Great Food stores are located at Parkway Mall, St. Clair Beach and Malden Road.

Transit Windsor Chair, Councillor Bill Marra stated, “Without the support of the Zehrs Great Food stores, there would be no free service or shuttle buses and persons would have to drive downtown. This would put a serious strain on the municipal infrastructure”.

“At Zehrs, we’re extremely excited to be a sponsor of this exciting event,” says Derrick Pittman, vice president, Zehrs. “This event is important to the Windsor community and therefore important to us”.

New this year, the Transit Windsor Board of Directors approved the collection of cash donations on board all buses after 6:00 p.m., with proceeds being donated to Morning Glory Moments. All money will be collected on a voluntary basis.

Morning Glory Moments is a postnatal drop-in program for young low-income parents living with children newborn to six years old. This program is managed by the Teen Health Centre and is facilitated by a Community Health Worker and Registered Nurse with the assistance of volunteers and students.

The rain date is Tuesday, June 28.
