At the WFCU Center before a crowd of 6504 the Windsor Spitfires (27-16-2) took on the number one ranked team in the CHL currently, the Mississauga St. Micheal Majors (38-8-0). The Spits put forth one of their strongest efforts all season and were up 3-1 going into the third period. Taylor Carnevale scored two of these goals and Jack Campbell made 34 saves.
The Majors were able to rally in the third period to add a pair of goals less than two minutes apart. This forced a scoreless overtime period and a shootout. Two former Spitfires, Marc Cantin and Justin Shug scored the game winning goals in the shootout for Mississauga. Windsor wasn’t able to match when Carnevale and Ellis were unable to score in the shootout against the Major’s net-minder Anderson. There were a total of four fights all of which were all in the first fifteen minutes of play.
The Spits take on the Erie Otters (25-23-1) on the road on Saturday night. The next home game is next Thursday against the Owen Sound Attack (33-15-0).
