Hundreds of employees will be losing their jobs after workers say Heinz announced to them that it intends to close their plant by next July.

Employees at the plant tell windsoriteDOTca that the entire plant will be closed “by July next year”.

In a news tip sent to windsoriteDOTca, the company told workers that the closure comes after an “extensive review” of its operations both in Canada and the US. Two US plants will be closing.

The company promised workers to make the transition to closure as smooth as possible. Heinz in Leamington is represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 459.

Heinz is expected to release a statement this afternoon.
