A total solar eclipse will be visible in Windsor Essex, weather permitting, on Monday April 8th, 2024 and Windsor Essex will be in the path of totality.  Windsor Essex is one of the premier spots in the WORLD to see the 2024 eclipse.

A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk. Weather permitting, people along the path of totality will see the Sun’s corona, or outer atmosphere, which is usually obscured by the bright face of the Sun. The partial phase of the eclipse should start at approximately 1:58pm and end at 4:28pm. Totality should take place 3:12pm to 3:15pm. Click here for detailed timing and information.

Remember, schools in Windsor Essex will either have the whole day off or be dismissed at 1pm. Make sure you are alert and aware when driving and moving around the area on April 8th.

To make the most of this rare event you’ll want to first make sure you are being safe and following proper protocols to protect your vision and general safety for yourself and those around you.

It is not safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection for solar viewing. Viewing any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will instantly cause severe eye injury. When watching the partial phases of the solar eclipse directly with your eyes, which happens before and after totality, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. You can also use an indirect viewing method, such as a pinhole projector (source: https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024)
